Maiden were in my opinion the grandfathers of Power Metal. I don't know what it is they do to make their music own so hard, but they need to keep doing it. Iron Maiden is proof yet again that the best music comes from the U.K. I like Metallica, but I don't like Metallica Posers. Metallica can't be made heavier, like Megadeth tried to do copied, like Anthrax shamelessly pulled, or "tweaked", like Motorhead did (granted, Motorhead didn't copy them much, but listen hard, you'll hear some Metallica in there). Anthrax, Megadeth, Motorhead to an extent, the list keeps going. This happened to Punk, and it happened to Metallica. So what happens when a unique, kickass band hits the public? Talentless retards follow them. They have a sound that no one can replicate, and they had a style all their own. Metallica started this whole thing, and I won't deny that they sound awesome. In my opinion, there are only three, yes THREE unique sounding 80's Thrash bands: Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer. What sprung up from the vacuum that Punks had left were the posers, the guys who wanted to make music that didn't have to "mean" anything, and to differenciate their sound from, say, Faction, they tuned their guitars lower. Punk never "died", it just went where it was supposed to have been all along: in one room apartments and small city bars where bands don't have to put on a face for their fans. The Punk era lasted about as long as a good Black Flag song, which isn't very long, then the public, who any real punk didn't want in the culture in the first place, got bored like the sheep they are and public support for Punk just stopped.

Punk (and I'm talking Black Flag, the Pistols, the Ramones, Danzig-era Misfits, and Agent Orange here, not your pansy Good Charlotte or Alkaline Trio here) was the anti-hippie "movement", for lack of a better word. I look at 80's Thrash Metal as almost a redundancy of Punk. Today I'm going to go into why I'm not a big fan of most modern and 80's Metal, Okay? Well it's not like you have a choice about this at all.
